LAGARDE HARVEST 2015
In 2014, winter was warmer than usual. For that reason, shooting was almost 10 days earlier and, consequently, all the phenological stages took place earlier too.
During spring, in most regions there was no serious late frost or zonda wind and the temperatures were suitable for well shoot development, blooming and setting.
In early summer days were not very hot. Temperatures were not very high and nights were cool. In late summer (February and March) and early autumn (April) rainfall did not exceed the normal average and the relative humidity remained high creating favorable conditions for the development of pathogenic fungi diseases.
This year, the key for the quality of the harvest was good sanitation, which was determined by the combination of different factors such as the region, the time of the harvest and the grape variety.
In general, the regions with soil with good drainage and high percentages of stones and sand achieved better results than those with flat soil and more clay. The sound grapes harvested earlier were of higher quality than those harvested later. Therefore, this year did not favor the late harvest grape varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon.
We were forced to redouble our efforts, both in the field and in the winery, in order to keep the high performance that our terroir has got us used to. Thanks to the canopy management vines got good air circulation. Moreover, in the reception area, the cluster and grape selection was strengthened.
We may say that this harvest will result in considerably elegant wines with very fine and delicate aromas as well as very good natural acidity and freshness.
MAYOR DRUMMOND - DRUMMOND ESTATE
All grape varieties were harvested between two and three weeks earlier than usual. The resulting Semillon was fresh and with varietal character, while the Malbec displayed high natural acidity as well as aromatic profiles including fresh red fruit, jam and riper fruit.
PERDRIEL - LA JACINTANA
Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc stood out among red grapes, especially those coming from the regions with more drainage, which were harvested earlier. Viogner stands out among white grapes; it is very expressive and floral.
AGRELO COBOS
Malbec and Petit Verdot were the most outstanding grape varieties. It was a difficult year for this region with deep and heavy soil. There was greater control both in the vineyard management and in the grape selection process in order to prevent damaged grape from entering into the winery.
GUALTALLARY – AGUAS VERDES ESTATE
It was another good harvest for a region that is consistent year after year, consolidating the production of very high quality grapes. In this region, where the soil has excellent drainage and steep slopes, good sanitation remained despite the rain.
The resulting Malbec displays red fruits, herbs and floral aromas. In the mouth, it is a fresh wine thanks to the high natural acidity and the typical tannins of this calcareous soil.
