Lagarde releases first vintage of Primeras Vinas Malbec Gualtallary

Tags: Lagarde, malbec, gualtallary, mendoza

The Primeras Vinas collection of wines is adding a wonderful new wine to this amazing line. A Super Malbec that has been aged for 16 months in just one four thousand liter French oak vat, making only 4,500 bottles of a wine that is extremely allocated.
The Pescarmona family has owned the 120-year-old Lagarde estate since 1969, and this is their first release to highlight the Finca Agua Verdes vineyard. Planted with ungrafted vines in 2005, this is Lagarde’s highest-elevation vineyard, and, soaring above 4,500 feet, one of the highest in Mendoza.
The early scores on this stellar wine are glowing — Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate calls it a “simply superb” 94-pointer. Loaded with ripe fruit and bursting with floral notes and spice, it has youthful energy that will work itself out in the cellar for 10-15 years.

Tasting Notes: Deep and dense ruby/purple. Lavish aromas of black and blue fruit, accented by chocolate, mint and briary herbs. Voluptuous and silky on entry, juicy blackberry fruit and blueberry compote mingle with creamy oak and spice. Tightly wound on the finish, this beautiful Malbec finishes with finesse and will hit its full stride over the next decade.

Sofia Pescarmona released this wine with a wonderful wine paired menu at Roux by Chef Martin Rebaudino one of Buenos Aires best kept secrets in the vibrant Restaurant Scene.
