Lagarde revamps its image and launches a Red Blend

Created by Lagarde Winery more than 30 years ago, the eponymous range updates its image as a reflection and tribute to its success. Led by third-generation vintners and sisters Sofía and Lucila Pescarmona, besides launching a new image they are also releasing the brand-new Red Blend from this range that will hit shelves in August 2020.

Lagarde’s Head Winemaker Juan Roby conceived this creation, which is a blend of three grapes sourced from the different estates that the winery owns in Luján de Cuyo. The varieties that make up Lagarde Red Blend 2019 are Cabernet Sauvignon (40%), Malbec (33%) and Syrah (27%).

Red Blend 2019 undergoes a traditional winemaking process, comprising a three-day pre-fermentation maceration that uses native yeasts and a controlled fermentation temperature below 30°C. Once malolactic fermentation spontaneously occurs, maceration lasts between two and three weeks.

“We decided to make Red Blend fresher than the other wines in this range and chose not to age it in oak barrels as we usually do. We found it interesting to make a Blend that was different from what we are used to,” explained Roby.

Sofía Pescarmona, CEO and co-owner of the winery, added: “Lagarde has a great tradition with regards to blending. For example, our iconic Henry Gran Guarda N°1 isn’t just one of Argentina’s first high-end wines but it’s always been a blend. With Lagarde Red Blend 2019, we wanted to traverse a new path and create a fresh wine with a pleasant mouth and rounded tannins. It’s a very gastronomical wine, which is exactly what we strive for with all our wines.”

The first vintage of this Red Blend is 2019, a year whose harvest gave us wines marked with balance and freshness. “Cool and dry weather, in addition to moderate yields, resulted in elegant wines such as this blend, which has a very good concentration between color, aromatic and high natural acidity,” added Roby.

As for the Lagarde range’s revamped image, the idea is to revive the elegance that has always characterized this family business while highlighting the beautiful original structure of the century-old winery, whose owners have preserved it for 123 years. With this new label, Lagarde's flagship line looks to the future and continues to tell its story.
