Teia: a blend of stars
Teia, Lagarde's new range of wines, is made up of two co-fermented blends that had minimal intervention in the winemaking process. With these two new creations, we aim to highlight the quality of the grapes produced by the winery's family-owned vineyards, a result of years of sustainable work on the field.
The winery´s new entry line is made up of two red wines: Teia Malbec - Petit Verdot 2020 and Teia Cabernet Sauvignon - Cabernet Franc 2020. The grapes come from Agrelo and Perdriel, micro-regions of Luján de Cuyo.
Both wines were harvested manually. They are co-fermented blends because their varieties fermented together, respecting and feeding each other. A similar process occurs between the sisters that lead Lagarde, Sofía and Lucila Pescarmona. The two are excited to continue discovering and experimenting with Mendoza's terroir.
The elaboration was traditional and natural yeasts were used. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks with daily pump-overs, at a controlled temperature below 30 °. The maceration lasted 20 days and was defined by daily tastings by the oenological team, led by Juan Roby. Malolactic fermentation occurred spontaneously.
Both blends have a lot of fruit and are fresh and drinkable. These are wines have character, are well rounded and have great presence.
"Our wines haVe become increasingly linked to nature and its products. With Teia, we wanted to continue experimenting with the possibilities that blends offer us, which we like more and more everyday for their sophistication and elegance. These are wines that allow us to continue creating different sensations ", explained Sofía Pescarmona, CEO and co-owner of the winery, founded in 1897 and acquired by her family in the 70s.
“Teia is the wine you can drink after your yoga class or while watching your favorite series. It is the perfect wine to accompany our day-to-day lives, but it also reconnects us with what we enjoy the most, with the simple and natural”, added Lucila Pescarmona, Lagarde Sales Director in North America and co-owner of Lagarde.
Teia's label shows a cutout of the universe. Ursa Major makes an appearance, a constellation whose stars can be seen from Mendoza -partly- during the summer. The artist in charge of this work was Luciana Garabello, a watercolorist based in Buenos Aires.
What does Teia mean?
Teia is the word with which Basilio, Sofia's son, used to call upon the stars to greet them when he was just a child. Teia´s wines allow us to experiment with the opportunities that Mendoza's terroir gives us and obtain a series of blends designed to be enjoyed, but also to see evolve.
