On International Pinot Noir Day, a novelty from Proyecto Hermanas
On August 18th, the world celebrates International Pinot Noir Day making it the ideal occasion to discover the 2018 harvest of Proyecto Hermanas Pinot Noir, a recent release of Bodega Lagarde. It is a 100% varietal, made with grapes from Valle de Uco. Defined by our winemaker, Juan Roby, as juicy with strong tannins that give it a fresh and prolonged ending, it is already being sold in Argentina and the United States.
The harvest is manual and the vinification process is done by cold maceration, using dry ice during eight days. Once the fermentation is finished, the wine spends 12 months in a 2,500 liter French oak barrel.
The grapes come from an estate in Gualtallary, in the area of Tupungato, which is part of Valle de Uco. The vineyards were planted in 2015, at an altitude of 1,350 meters above sea level.
Proyecto Hermanas is a high-end range of wines created in 2017 as the result of the passion that sisters Sofía and Lucila Pescarmona feel for winemaking and thanks to the “expertise” they have acquired in the years they have been in charge of Bodega Lagarde.
“When making these wines, we sort of threw a question in the air in order to challenge traditions, but, at the same time, respect them and establishing our own legacy. It is our personal search for style and dreaming of a path to walk together ", explains Sofía Pescarmona, CEO of Lagarde.
"Creating this range was an opportunity to miss each other less, laugh at our differences and join forces with nature", adds Lucila, head of sales for Lagarde in the United States.
The Pinot Noir variety originated in Burgundy, France, but according to research from Wines of Argentina, in the last decade the number of vineyards of Pinot Noir planted in Argentina grew, reaching over 2,000 hectares. An 80% of those plants are in Mendoza. Although this variety was already popular in the making of sparkling wines, in the terroir of Valle de Uco it found a unique typicity.
This range of wines also includes Proyecto Hermanas White Blend 2018 and Proyecto Hermanas Malbec 2017. The winemaker in charge of the production is Juan Roby.
The suggested retail price at Bodega Lagarde (Luján de Cuyo) as well as wine shops is $1.100 (pesos).
